About me
Kaarina joined the ECF’s International Energy Programme in 2021 as Clean Energy Demand Programme Manager. She has more than 10 years of experience in the climate and energy policy field, specialising in corporates’ clean energy transition.
Previously, she worked at the WWF European Policy Office as the Senior Coal Finance and Utility Coordinator while serving the Europe Beyond Coal campaign coalition. In addition, she has led the climate, energy, corporate engagement, and financial markets work at WWF Finland. She started her career at the UNEP Brussels Liaison Office and the European Commission in the Directorate-General for Climate Action, focusing on international climate finance.
Kaarina holds an MSc in Environmental Policy from Oxford University but has also studied in Finland, Australia and New Zealand. She is a dual citizen of Finland and Germany. She speaks Finnish, English, German, French and Swedish.
Outside of working hours, she rushes off to spinning classes, escapes to the Alps and national parks with her backpack and awkwardly large camera, engages in vegetarian concept cooking, and gets lost in literature. After having lived several years in Brussels, the world’s comic book capital, she is particularly fond of comics as an alternative form of literature and storytelling.
