Manager, Climate Governance Programme

Brussels

About me

Zoltán joined the ECF in September 2021 as a programme manager for the Climate Governance Programme, based in Brussels.

Zoltán works on promoting climate governance frameworks at European and national levels to contribute to national and public ownership of the climate neutrality transformation. He explores the role of ‘governance features’ in climate policy-making, which include binding targets, integrated short- and long-term planning, monitoring and progress checking based on modelling, intergovernmental coordination, scientific advice, public participation and the right to litigate. He is involved in supporting implementation of the European Green Deal, to strengthen existing climate governance policies, including the European climate law and the Governance regulation, to design what the future European Climate architecture would look like and to explore the role of strategic litigation.

Zoltán is a Hungarian-qualified lawyer with a strong commitment to protecting the public interest, which he has been serving throughout his 17+ year career.

Before joining the ECF, he worked for an umbrella NGO advocating for better health in Europe, the Hungarian public administration, the European Court of Justice as a lawyer linguist as well as national law courts.

Zoltán is fluent in English, French, German and native in Hungarian. He is a happy father of five young children. He enjoys travelling by bike and reading about global and Hungarian history.

His favourite motivational quote: “The only wealth which you will keep forever is the wealth you have given away”, Marcus Aurelius.
