About me
Lena Ruthner joined the ECF in 2023 as Director for the EU Green Deal Diplomacy team, based in Berlin.
Lena brings over 15 years of experience in policy consulting and international programme management in the field of climate and energy. She has worked for various consultancies, non-governmental organisations and think tanks, the European Commission and the German Ministry of Environment. She has led on international high-level policy initiatives as well as technical assistance projects and programmes in the fields of energy and climate change with a regional focus on the EU, Asia and Eastern Europe.
Lena brings expertise on the international climate negotiations and the provisions of the Paris Agreement and has been advising the European Commission on their climate diplomacy strategy and engagements with partner countries post-Paris. She recently directed two major policy dialogue and technical assistance projects for the EC in China and South Korea with a focus on Green Deal Diplomacy, sustainable energy transition and low carbon development. Lena also holds a strong background in European Climate and Energy Policies. She was involved in the EU 2050 Climate Strategy Development, including the assessment of employment and social impacts of the low-carbon transition. She provided technical advice to the EC on the implementation of the Energy Union Governance Process in Member States, including for the development of integrated national energy and climate plans (NECPs).
Lena grew up in Germany and spent a large part of her adult life in the UK. She has three kids and recently moved back to Berlin with her family.
