Susan Bell is Principal of Susan Bell & Associates and Senior Advisor to Stanford University’s Woods Institute for the Environment. She provides strategic counsel to private philanthropies, non-profits, and faculty in addressing environmental and social issues, helping leaders develop goals and strategies, and building strong and effective organisations.
Ms Bell previously served as Vice President for The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation for fourteen years. At Hewlett she was also Senior Fellow for Energy and Climate, helping to launch the ClimateWorks Network in the United States, Europe, China, India, and Latin America. Her focus was on designing programmes that reduce greenhouse gas emissions while enabling economic growth.
Ms Bell’s career includes work in strategic planning, development, and communications at Stanford University, the Sierra Club, and Northwestern University. She is Vice Chair of the European Climate Foundation Supervisory Board, a board member of the National Audubon Society and the Monterey Bay Aquarium, and sits on the Leadership Council of the Nicholas Institute for Environmental Policy Solutions at Duke University. She is a Duke University graduate, and resides in Menlo Park, California with her husband, Steve.
