Thomas Legge is Director of External Relations, based in Brussels. He is in charge of managing the ECF’s relations with its funders, its Supervisory Board, and the wider philanthropic community.
Thomas’s career has been at the intersection of public policy, civil society and expert advice, and he is particularly interested in the role of philanthropy in bringing these different groups together to allow society to address the challenges of climate change. He formed part of energy and climate programmes at think tanks and foundations in Washington, D.C. (the German Marshall Fund of the United States), London (Chatham House) and Brussels (the Centre for European Policy Studies).
He worked in an advisory capacity to the Irish government at Comhar, Ireland’s Sustainable Development Council. He also has experience in technical assistance and in the challenges of economic transition from his time working on democratisation, good governance and human rights in the European Commission’s delegation to Georgia and Armenia, based in Tbilisi. Before taking up the position of External Relations director, he was part of the ECF’s team in Brussels working on climate policy. He has a personal interest in urbanism and in community solutions to societal problems.
