Our Impact

For more than 15 years the ECF has built a proven track record of impact through a holistic, people-centred approach to achieving change. Emissions reductions, industrial competitiveness, security, nature protection, and foreign policy are increasingly interdependent — sustaining progress in one area requires movement across the whole system. That’s why we focus not only on advancing change in individual sectors, but on creating the conditions that make progress durable.

With the generous support of a growing number of philanthropies, the ECF and its partners have helped drive major advances in European climate policy, from the European Green Deal to national energy transitions and international climate diplomacy.

  • As a grant-maker, we support over 700 organisations to design and deliver climate solutions across Europe and the world. We mobilise philanthropic funding and deploy it through our network, working closely with partners to co-design grants that are strategically aligned and built for impact – within and beyond the climate ecosystem.
  • As a network enabler, we strengthen the climate ecosystem by helping partners build capacity and connect across sectors and borders. We do this by providing organisational development support, convening partners to align and collaborate, and incubating or hosting organisations, platforms, and coalitions where gaps exist. We also share knowledge, tools, and insight across the network — so what works in one place can scale more quickly across others.
  • As a narrative shaper, we support efforts to communicate climate action in ways that resonate broadly by connecting it to prosperity, security, health, affordability, and fairness. We do this by backing research and audience insight, supporting trusted messengers, and testing narratives grounded in evidence and lived experience. We also work to expand the range of voices and audiences shaping public debate, helping build broad-based public support for the transition to net zero.
  • As a thought leader, we systematically back analysis and strategic foresight to anticipate emerging challenges, test new approaches, and help the ecosystem navigate change with clarity. This includes modelling geopolitical, economic, supply chain, and climate scenarios, as well as producing evidence-based snapshots of the current landscape to inform decision-making at all levels. We convene governments, business, civil society, and citizens — bringing together diverse actors to collaborate and develop shared strategies for progress.

Together with our funders and partners, we have helped Europe make measurable progress towards net zero.
